About the Event

We have the pleasure of announcing the First Unilorin Open Data Hack Day event, coinciding with the 2014 International Open Data HackDay (http://opendataday.org/) slated for Saturday, February 22nd, 2014 at the University of Ilorin Auditorium (Basement).

The Data Hack Event is one of the University of Ilorin's Open Data Research Group activities as part of the World Wide Web Foundation funded 'Exploring the Emerging Impacts of Open Data in Developing Countries (ODDC)' research project on Investigation of the Use of the Online National Budget of Nigeria, supported by grant 107075 from Canada’s International Development Research Centre (web.idrc.ca). Find out more at: http://www.opendataresearch.org/project/2013/unilorin

The data hack is organised as a competition between Teams, on visualisation of the budget data of Nigeria (www.budgetoffice.gov.ng), the data being the bedrock of our ODDC research. Teams comprise of a Team Leader, Programmer, Systems Analyst, and Web Developer.

The event will be run with BudgIT Nigeria, which is a creative start-up driven to retell the Nigerian budget and public data in a finer detail across every literacy span (http://www.yourbudgit.com/).
